Hyderabad Metro will increase its ticket prices for the first time since operations began, starting Saturday, 17 May 2025. The operator, L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH), confirmed the fare revision.
The cost of the lowest fare ticket will rise from ₹10 to ₹12, while the highest fare will increase from ₹60 to ₹75. This means fares will go up by about 20% to 25%, depending on the distance traveled.
K.V.B. Reddy, Managing Director and CEO of L&TMRH, said the new pricing is based on recommendations from the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC). This committee, formed by the government and headed by a former High Court judge, submitted its report back in January 2023.
Reddy explained that the revised fares aim to strike a balance between keeping travel affordable and ensuring the metro system remains financially sustainable. He urged passengers to support the decision, saying the fare increase is essential to maintain service quality and expand operations.
The fare hike comes after a long gap of 7.5 years. Although the FFC had advised a phased increase in 2023, L&TMRH postponed the move due to various factors, including the general elections.
Now, the company says it can no longer delay. Rising operational costs and ongoing financial losses have made the fare revision necessary. The additional revenue will help fund new trains and allow more frequent services during peak hours.
The metro operator hopes this step will lead to better service for the city’s growing number of commuters.
