Hyderabad police arrest two for vehicle battery theft

Hyderabad: The Begumpet Police have arrested two individuals involved in stealing batteries from heavy vehicles. The police recovered three 12-volt Amaron batteries, valued at ₹1.5 lakh, from their possession.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammed Sohail Pasha, aged 20, and Syed Ibad Syed Tabrez, aged 19. Both are residents of Musheerabad.

According to the police, they received a complaint on January 4 regarding a theft that took place during the night between December 30 and December 31, 2024. The theft involved three batteries stolen from heavy vehicles (DCMs) parked at Old Patigadda, Begumpet. The accused were later apprehended near Rasoolpura X Roads.

Investigations revealed that the accused would scout for unguarded and isolated vehicle parking areas. On the night of the theft, Sohail, aided by Ibad, arrived at Patigadda on a stolen bike without a number plate. They stole the batteries from the parked vehicle and fled the scene.

Further inquiries uncovered that the prime accused, Sohail, had also stolen two two-wheelers—one from Begumpet and another from Marredpally—with the assistance of a minor. Sohail had a prior arrest record for a two-wheeler theft within the jurisdiction of the Tukaramgate police station.

The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
