The Hyderabad Cyber Crime unit has taken down 427 social media profiles involved in promoting illegal betting platforms and fraudulent investment schemes. The crackdown comes as part of an extensive cyber patrol operation aimed at protecting citizens from online financial frauds targeting unsuspecting users across Telangana.

In April alone, authorities identified 184 social media profiles actively engaged in promoting illegal activities. The investigation also uncovered 801 paid advertisements that were being used to lure users toward betting applications and fake investment websites. These promoters used sophisticated tactics including IPL predictions, referral links, bonus offers, and deepfake videos to attract potential victims.

The Cyber Crime unit reported all identified profiles to respective social media platforms, resulting in their complete removal. Additionally, six FIRs have been registered against individuals found promoting these illegal schemes. The overall cyber patrol action has resulted in the removal of 1,903 advertisements alongside the 427 profiles taken down so far.

The operation highlights the growing menace of cyber fraud in the state, particularly targeting users during major sporting events like the Indian Premier League. Citizens who come across suspicious online activity are urged to report immediately by dialing 1930 or visiting cybercrime.gov.in. The Hyderabad police continue their vigilance against such illegal operations and have assured strict action against anyone found involved in promoting or operating betting and fraudulent investment platforms.
