Hyderabad has introduced a new initiative called the ‘Safety Club’ to promote student awareness and responsibility in schools and colleges. This effort, led by the Hyderabad City Police and partnered with educational institutions and civil groups, aims to address Physical Safety, Cyber Safety, Substance Abuse Prevention, and Mental Health.
The program, named ‘Empowering Students, Enhancing Safety, Enabling a Better Tomorrow,’ was launched on Monday at AV College. Students from AV College, St Theresa, and Bharat Scouts and Guides participated. Rajalingam, the Principal of AV College, expressed pride in hosting the club, highlighting that Telangana CM Revanth Reddy is an alumnus of the college.
Hyderabad District Collector Harichandana praised the initiative, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among educators, families, and administrators in creating safe learning environments. She noted that the program goes beyond raising awareness by empowering students to become more civic-minded and accountable. Harichandana hopes this model will expand to all educational institutions, making Telangana a safer state.
Shilpavalli, DCP Central Zone, described the Safety Club as a proactive community engagement effort by the Hyderabad City Police, led by Commissioner CV Anand. The program aims to empower students rather than police them, fostering an environment where they feel secure in all aspects of their lives. The club provides tools for students to effectively respond to challenges.
The Safety Club will be overseen by the school Principal as Chairperson, a teacher (Balamitra) as Convener, a parent volunteer as Safety Guide, and student volunteers as Safety Advocates. Each club will focus on four main areas and will hold monthly reviews, gather student feedback, and conduct quarterly safety walks.
Activities will include cyber awareness campaigns, drug-free campus initiatives, mental health programs, safety skills workshops, peer ambassador programs, parent cooperation sessions, digital detox tools, and legal rights education.
