Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has sent official communication to Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy regarding the progress of the Hyderabad South Regional Ring Road (RRR) project. The communication marks a significant advancement in the infrastructure development plans for the region, with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) now moving from the initiated stage to active implementation for the 182-kilometer southern segment.
The official update confirms that the DPR for the southern part of the RRR has transitioned from preliminary planning to active development, incorporating technical drawings and satellite surveys. This segment will form a crucial component of the larger ring road network designed to decongest traffic around Hyderabad and facilitate smoother connectivity across the state.
The northern segment of the Regional Ring Road has already progressed to the tendering stage, according to the communication. This section will connect Sangareddy, Toopran, and Choutuppal, creating a comprehensive circular corridor around the state capital. The simultaneous development of both segments indicates the government’s commitment to expediting the project timeline.
The southern RRR is expected to create major growth nodes at three key locations: Shadnagar, Amangal, and Choutuppal. These intersections are projected to become significant development hubs, attracting industrial and commercial investments as the ring road network takes shape. Urban planners anticipate substantial economic activity in these areas once the infrastructure becomes operational.
A critical feature of the project is its logistics integration capability. The ring road is designed to ensure seamless connectivity between three major national highways: the Bangalore corridor (NH-44), the Vijayawada route (NH-65), and the Mumbai highway (NH-65). This integration aims to streamline cargo movement and reduce transit times for commercial vehicles passing through or around the Hyderabad metropolitan area.
The Hyderabad Regional Ring Road project has been in planning stages for several years, with the state and central governments coordinating on land acquisition, route alignment, and funding mechanisms. The official communication from Nitin Gadkari to the state minister represents a concrete step forward in transforming the long-pending infrastructure proposal into reality, with both northern and southern segments now in active development phases.
