Hyderabad: Residents of Ramachandraiah Colony in Mallampet, Dundigal mandal (Medchal-Malkajgiri district) got quick help from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) after they reported a serious sewage problem on Monday.
People in the colony said that a drainage line connecting Chennam Lake to Rellakunta was blocked, causing sewage water to overflow. The water levels rose over a meter, flooding many homes and forcing families to leave and live outside for nearly a month. They filed a complaint through HYDRA’s Prajavani platform asking for immediate action.
According to the complaint, sewage from Nizampet municipality was flowing into Chennam Lake, which normally drains into Rellakunta in the Bollaram municipality. But blockages in the drainage path stopped the flow. Residents said that nearby land developers had blocked part of the drain, making the problem worse.
They were upset that earlier complaints to officials had not led to any action. After the latest complaint, HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath looked into the issue using Google Maps and satellite images. He quickly ordered his team to fix the problem.
HYDRA workers arrived on Tuesday and cleared the blocked drain. This allowed the sewage water to flow out of the colony. Residents were relieved and thankful that HYDRA solved the issue within just 24 hours of their complaint.
