Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has taken back 7,000 square yards of land in Uppal mandal. This land is valued at Rs 85 crore. The action followed several complaints received through the weekly Prajavani.
On February 7, the agency announced the land will be developed into public parks. These spaces are crucial not just for their monetary value but for their environmental benefits. HYDRAA emphasizes that protecting open areas is a main goal.
In Babanagar Colony, which was originally developed in 1980 with 183 plots, the agency found major encroachments. A part of the land, 3,000 square yards, was meant for a park. However, the number of plots increased from 183 to 189 unlawfully.
An individual bought Plot No 188 and built a house on 266 square yards, leaving some area vacant. This person later became the colony’s welfare association president. Allegedly, as president, he encroached on a nearby road and created six illegal plots, each 50 square yards, and sold them.
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath, along with officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the revenue department, reviewed records and confirmed the encroachment. Although some of the land was already occupied, HYDRAA managed to secure 2,000 square yards by fencing it and marking it as parkland.
The agency also reclaimed 5,000 square yards in Karthikeya Nagar, Nacharam village, within Uppal mandal. These plots were designated for public use.
