Hyderabad/New Delhi:
The Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, spoke about the high costs involved in mineral exploration on Thursday. He stressed the importance of research, scientific study, and partnerships to improve our capabilities.
Reddy was speaking at a national seminar on ‘challenges and opportunities in the mines and minerals sector.’ This event was organized by the Mining, Geological, and Metallurgical Institute of India in New Delhi.
To support sustainable mining, Reddy talked about promoting underground mining. The goal is to achieve 100 million metric tonnes by the years 2029-2030. He also mentioned several steps being taken to develop clean fuel technologies. These include coal gasification, extracting coal bed methane (CBM) gases, exploring coal-to-hydrogen processes, and carbon capture and storage (CCS).
Reddy urged industry representatives to work with the government to advance technology and innovation in the mining sector. He expressed confidence that the conference would lead to meaningful discussions on challenges and solutions for sustainable mining. He added that the private sector’s innovation and willingness to take risks would be key in making India the third-largest economy in the near future.
The minister also had a constructive discussion with CEOs from both private and public sector companies involved in mining and exploration. These industry leaders shared the challenges they face and offered valuable suggestions and recommendations.
Reddy assured that the ministry would thoroughly review all issues and policy suggestions presented. He promised prompt action on these matters. He emphasized that such interactions are essential for good governance. They show the dynamic nature of the industry and the importance of strong coordination with government efforts. Reddy concluded by saying that India’s vast natural resources are crucial for the country’s goal of becoming Viksit Bharat by 2047 and achieving ‘Atmanirbharta’ in every sense.
