Gadwal: Farmers in Jallapuram village of Manavapad mandal have turned to a heartfelt ritual, hoping to end the long drought afflicting their area. They seek the aid of Varuna, the Rain God, praying for rain not just for their village but for all of Telangana.
In a striking ceremony, 101 decorated bullocks led a procession to the Krishna River. Villagers gathered 101 pots of holy water from the river to offer at their local temples. This event caught the attention of nearby communities due to its scale and meaning.
With songs and prayers, villagers earnestly asked the Rain God for mercy, hoping for rain to save their crops. Their chants included emotional pleas like, “O Rain God, show us your kindness and send us rain.”
Back in the village, the collected water was used in rituals to cleanse idols in the temples, believed to invite divine blessings and purify the environment.
This practice follows an old tradition invoked during severe droughts. The scale of this event, with 101 bullocks and water pots, highlighted community unity and respect for nature.
Many farmers, struggling with failed crops, participated, recalling how their ancestors used such rituals in past crises, often followed by rain.
This ritual reflects the strong faith and resilience of Telangana’s rural farmers. As the Kharif season continues, they eagerly await rain, hoping their prayers will be answered.
