Karimnagar: Students staying in government hostels are struggling to stay warm during cold nights because their rooms don’t have proper windows and they lack basic necessities.
These welfare hostels, meant for poor students, are facing several problems. In many areas of Karimnagar district, the hostels are still in rented buildings instead of proper concrete ones. Windows and doors are broken, and in some places, students haven’t even received bed sheets.
Students in many hostels are forced to take cold baths during winter because there’s no hot water. For example, in the government SC boys’ hostel in Huzurabad, there are 40 students, but blankets were distributed only last year. Now, many students have to bring blankets from home. Some window bars are broken, making it difficult to stay warm.
At the Ram Nagar hostel in Karimnagar town, which has 70 students, the geysers are not working. In the integrated school in Choppadandi, where 120 students stay, windows and doors are broken, and the curtains meant to keep mosquitoes out are damaged.
Many bathroom doors are rusted, and students are not provided with hot water. Similar issues are seen in the SC hostel in Jammikunta, where the geysers installed last year are no longer working. In the Manakondur integrated BC hostel, which houses 143 students, they are also suffering from the cold.
In the Gangadhara boys’ hostel, the mosquito nets on the windows are torn, and the geysers are not functioning. Students are finding it extremely difficult to take baths because of the freezing winter temperatures.
ABVP leader Kiran told The Hans India that many hostels have serious issues, especially during winter. He highlighted that students are suffering due to broken windows, doors, and non-working geysers. He urged the government to take immediate action and provide the necessary facilities as soon as possible.
