Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy announced that Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav will visit the Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit in Warangal on Saturday.
Speaking to the media, Kishan Reddy mentioned that the manufacturing unit, a long-term goal since former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao’s time, is almost ready, with over 70% completed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated this project under his guidance. The unit has a budget of Rs 521 crore, with an additional Rs 200 crore being considered. It will produce train engines, coaches, and wagons, contrary to previous claims that it would only clean wagons. This project promises both permanent and temporary jobs and will boost related industries like hospitality and transport.
Railway Minister Vaishnav will visit Kazipet on Saturday at 1:30 PM to check the progress. Production is expected to start early next year.
The central government is also planning a mega textile park in Warangal to boost industry alongside Hyderabad. Reddy pointed out that while the central government is active, the state governments have been less enthusiastic, particularly about the proposed Warangal airport, which is delayed due to land acquisition issues. Former Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was involved, but progress has stalled.
Half of the Warangal Ring Road is done, with the rest needing state cooperation. Rail connectivity improvements include expanding MMTS Phase-2, launched by PM Modi, and building a new railway station at Komuravelli, set to open in January.
Telangana’s rail network is modernizing with Rs 720 crore allocated for upgrading Secunderabad station, along with developments at Nampally and Kacheguda stations, and a women-run Begumpet station. Thirty-seven stations are under development, expected to finish by June. A total of 40 stations will be transformed, incorporating local culture into their designs.
