This year in Hyderabad, the Khairatabad Maha Ganesh will be known as Vishwa Shanti Maha Shakti Ganapati. The idol will reach a height of 69 feet, according to the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Samithi. They announced this during the Karra Puja ceremony, marking the start of the idol’s construction.
Next to the Vishwa Shanti Maha Ganapati, two other idols will be placed. Shri Puri Jagannath Swamy will be on the right, and Shri Lakshmi Sameta Haigriva Swamy will be on the left. Additionally, Shri Lalita Tripura Sundari and Shri Gajjelamma will also be featured.
The Khairatabad Maha Ganapati is among the most popular Ganesh celebrations in Hyderabad. Each year, they display a large Ganesh idol, continuing a tradition that has lasted for many years. Work on the statue will commence shortly.
The Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Samithi began in 1954 with a small one-foot-tall idol, introduced by Singari Shankaraiah. Inspired by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, a freedom fighter, the festival symbolizes unity. The idol’s height increased yearly until 2014, when it was slightly reduced for environmental reasons, but creativity in design remained. These idols are made entirely of clay and painted with natural colors, drawing crowds from all over the country.
MLA Danam Nagender shared that preparations are underway under the guidance of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The city police commissioner and other officials will coordinate efforts. Samithi member Veena Madhuri mentioned that work started today, with 82 days left until Ganesh Chaturthi. She noted that the government is providing full support to the Samithi’s needs.
