Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy highlighted that changes in lifestyle are leading to health issues, causing 95 out of 100 people to need a doctor’s help.
After launching Telangana’s Marketing and Distribution Warehouse for the Pradhana Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadi Pariyojana (PMBJP) with State Governor Jishnu Dev Verma on Sunday, Reddy addressed the media. He mentioned that retirees are using their entire pensions on healthcare. Similarly, when the poor and middle class fall ill, they often spend their life savings on medical bills. To help these groups, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced several health initiatives. One such program is the Ayushman Bharat scheme, offering free insurance of Rs. 5 lakh annually, allowing treatment at any hospital. The scheme also provides free healthcare to senior citizens above 70.
Reddy noted that the central government established wellness centers called Basti Dawakhanas in Telangana. These centers are designed to offer affordable medicines through Jan Aushadi Kenderas, with prices 50% to 90% lower than typical medical shops. The initiative not only provides affordable medicine but also creates jobs for unemployed youth, with the government offering significant subsidies for these centers.
The Union Minister expressed his pleasure in inaugurating the depot for Jan Aushadi Kendras in Telangana. He mentioned that the former Chief Minister, K Chandraskehara Rao, did not implement the Ayushman Bharat Scheme and urged the current Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, to effectively execute the scheme in the state.
