The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) searched Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim’s residence on Sunday. The search is part of an investigation into a municipal recruitment scandal in West Bengal. The CBI team arrived at Hakim’s residence in south Kolkata this morning and the search operation is currently ongoing.

The CBI’s action was prompted by a court order from the Calcutta High Court. The order, issued by a single judge bench on April 21, directed the CBI to take over the investigation of the municipal recruitment scandal. The order came in response to an application filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

However, the Bengal government had objections to the jurisdiction of Justice Gangopadhyay, who was presiding over the case. These objections were based on a dispute over whether the judge had the authority to hear cases related to municipal matters. As a result, the legal proceedings surrounding this investigation have been complex and marked by disputes.
