Members of the Krishna River Management Board visited Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir on Saturday. They examined the left canal of Sagar and later inspected the right canal. The Assistant Director of Central Water Commission also inspected the dam. Gate number 7 of the right canal has been closed as per the orders of the Centre. Water released through gate number 5 and was closed at night.
During the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the management of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam was handed over to Telangana by KRMB. However, the AP government deployed police forces at the dam and released water without permission. Telangana also deployed forces at the site. Both states withdrew their forces after the Centre’s intervention. Currently, the dam is under the control of central forces (CRPF). KRMB has submitted a report to the Center stating that the AP government violated the rules. According to the report, AP released water without following the proper procedure. The proposed indent from AP states that water should be released at a rate of five TMC in January and April 2024.
