Hyderabad: The BRS Working President, KT Rama Rao, voiced strong opposition on Monday to the government’s plan to install a statue of Rajiv Gandhi in front of the Secretariat. He stated that once the BRS comes into power, they will remove the statue and rename the international airport.
Speaking to the media, KT Rama Rao criticized the government’s decision to place the statue of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi opposite the Secretariat. He argued that the BRS government had originally intended to install a statue of Telangana Talli, a symbolic figure representing the state of Telangana, at that location. “What role did Rajiv Gandhi have in Telangana?” he questioned. He further assured that the BRS would consult with Congress leaders, relocate the Rajiv Gandhi statue, and replace it with the Telangana Talli statue.
Additionally, KT Rama Rao mentioned that the BRS government plans to rename the international airport in Shamshabad. He pointed out that most states name their airports after notable personalities from their region. For example, the Mumbai airport is named after Chatrapati Shivaji. In a similar vein, he stated that the airport in Telangana should be named after a prominent figure from the state.
