Hyderabad: K T Rama Rao, the Sircilla MLA and BRS working president, has called for swift action from the state government to address the issues faced by students at JNTU Engineering College in Sircilla.
He emphasized the need for building permanent facilities, as students face challenges with classrooms locked at the temporary Vemulawada Degree College site.
After media coverage highlighted these issues, KTR contacted JNTU Vice-Chancellor Kishan Kumar Reddy and the Commissioner of Technical Education. He urged them to keep classes running smoothly and settle outstanding rent payments. He also recommended renewing the agreement with the Degree College to continue classes until permanent solutions are available.
The Commissioner assured that pending dues would be cleared immediately, ensuring students face no disruptions. KTR urged the state to prioritize student needs and speed up the approval process for the new campus in Mandepalli village, where 20 acres were allocated in 2023.
The JNTU Engineering College in Sircilla was approved in 2021 with a budget of Rs 402 crore. It started with 360 students and now accommodates over 1,000, with hostels for 700 students.
However, a setback occurred when the Degree College principal locked the classrooms due to a lack of updated orders from the commissioner. Although JNTU officials proposed solutions in July for faculty and accommodation issues, no action was taken, prompting KTR to urge immediate government intervention.
