Hyderabad – K.T. Rama Rao, working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), launched ‘Singidi Collective’ today, a new initiative aimed at protecting and promoting Telangana’s traditional handloom legacy.
The platform, accessible at singidicollective.com, represents a significant step towards preserving the state’s rich textile traditions that have been passed down through generations.
KTR highlighted the importance of Telangana’s textile heritage, which includes renowned weaving traditions such as Ikkat, Teliya Rumaal, and Gollabhama. These traditional crafts reflect centuries of innovation and wisdom embedded in the region’s cultural fabric.
The Singidi Collective focuses on combining traditional craftsmanship with modern sustainability practices. The initiative emphasizes the use of natural dyes and rain-fed organic cotton, aligning with contemporary demands for environmentally conscious products.
KTR expressed his appreciation for the seamless integration of traditional techniques with contemporary design elements. This approach makes Telangana’s handloom products relevant to modern consumers while maintaining their authentic character.
The former minister praised the young entrepreneurs behind the initiative for their commitment to building sustainable brands with a global vision. These entrepreneurs are working to create market opportunities for traditional weavers while ensuring the craft’s survival for future generations.
Telangana’s handloom sector has long been recognized for its distinctive weaving techniques and intricate designs. Ikkat, characterized by its resist-dyeing technique, and Teliya Rumaal, known for its oil-treated fabric, are among the state’s most celebrated textile traditions.
The Gollabhama saree, another traditional weave mentioned by KTR, is known for its unique patterns and craftsmanship that originated in Telangana’s weaving communities.
The launch of Singidi Collective comes at a time when traditional handloom industries across India face challenges from mechanized production and changing consumer preferences. The initiative aims to address these challenges by creating a sustainable business model that benefits both artisans and consumers.
By focusing on organic materials and eco-friendly production methods, the collective positions Telangana’s handloom products in the growing market for sustainable fashion and textiles.
“It’s inspiring to see natural dyes, rain-fed organic cotton and contemporary design come together so seamlessly,” KTR stated during the launch, expressing pride in the young entrepreneurs building sustainable brands with global vision.
