Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has released Rs 7.98 crore for the second tranche of YSR Law Nestham. This program is aimed at supporting junior advocates in their initial three years after enrolling in the bar. The amount, which is Rs 30,000 each, will be directly credited to the bank accounts of 2,807 junior advocates for the period from July to December 2023.
The Chief Minister virtually released the funds from his office in Tadepalli. He stated that YSR Law Nestham was introduced as a promise during his Padayatra. The program provides financial assistance to junior advocates during their early years in the profession.
Under this initiative, the State Government will provide a total stipend of Rs 1.80 lakh to each junior advocate over a period of three years. Instead of monthly payments, the government has decided to pay the amount every six months for better utility and monitoring.
Since the launch of the scheme, the State Government has already provided Rs. 49.51 crore as financial assistance to 6,069 advocates. The Chief Minister urged the junior advocates to also support the poor once they settle down in their profession.
In addition to YSR Law Nestham, the Government has established the Advocates Welfare Trust with a corpus fund of Rs 100 crore to assist advocates in various ways. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the trust provided financial help of Rs 52 lakh to 643 lawyers and loans amounting to Rs 11.56 crore to 7,733 lawyers. It also provided medi-claim benefits worth Rs 11.41 crore to 14,840 advocates.
Several junior advocates expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for the financial support. They mentioned that it has been helpful in preparing for competitive examinations. The event was attended by Chief Secretary Dr KS Jawahar Reddy, Law Secretary G Satya Prabhakara Rao, officials from the Law department, and senior advocates.
