Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone Team, along with Mirchowk police, arrested a man for making and selling fake engine oil with labels of the popular brand Castrol. The police seized 710 litres of the duplicate oil, worth around Rs 3 lakh. The accused was identified as Shaik Qayyum, 32, from Feelkhana. He was running a warehouse in Noor Khan Bazar.
Police said that Qayyum used to work as a tempo mechanic and later as a worker in an automobile shop in Nampally. With the experience he gained in the automobile field, he came up with a plan to sell fake engine oil using Castrol labels, as the brand is in high demand.
About five months ago, he rented a warehouse in Noor Khan Bazar. There, he gathered raw materials and began producing fake engine oil. He labeled the containers with Castrol Active Engine Oil stickers and barcodes to make them look like genuine products. He then sold them to local shops at a low price of Rs 220 per litre, while the original product costs around Rs 425 in the market.
Based on a tip-off, police raided the warehouse, arrested Qayyum, and seized all the materials used in the illegal activity. The arrested person and the seized items were handed over to the Mirchowk police for further investigation. A case has been registered under Cr. No. 85/2025, under Section 318(2) of the BNS and Sections 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act. The investigation is currently ongoing.
