Hyderabad: Telangana is set to boost its textile industry and create more rural jobs with the opening of a new, world-class garment manufacturing unit. The factory, built with an investment of Rs 102 crore, will be officially inaugurated on Friday at the Peddur Apparel Park in Sircilla.
The launch event will be attended by the State Agriculture, Textiles and Handlooms Minister T Nageswara Rao, and IT Minister D Sridhar Babu. Ahead of the inauguration, the ministers held a review meeting at the Secretariat on Thursday. They were joined by Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyer and other senior officials to ensure everything is ready for the big day.
This new garment unit has been set up to help women from low-income backgrounds, including beedi workers and members of the Padmashali community. These women will receive training in garment stitching, helping them gain skills and earn a steady income.
The Telangana government has provided strong infrastructure support for the project, including industrial sheds and uninterrupted power. Bengaluru-based Texport Industries has invested Rs 40 crore in modern machinery and built the production facility.
All the garments made at the unit will be exported to international markets. The factory is expected to produce 70 lakh garments every year, leading to exports worth Rs 300 crore. Some of the popular global brands it will supply include Tommy Hilfiger, Robert Graham, Vans, and Michael Kors.
The unit currently has 1,000 sewing machines and will operate in two shifts. It will directly employ 1,600 women, and over the next three years, it is expected to create 2,000 more jobs.
