Hyderabad: Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL) has officially received a big contract worth ₹12,800 crore from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). MEIL will build two nuclear reactors, each with a capacity of 700 megawatts (MWe), at Kaiga Units 5 and 6 in Karnataka.

This is the largest contract ever given by NPCIL. It is also MEIL’s first major project in the nuclear energy sector. The contract was formally handed over at NPCIL’s headquarters in Mumbai to Ch P Subbaiah, Director of Projects at MEIL, and his team.

For this project, NPCIL used the Quality-cum-Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) method for the first time. This method carefully balances both quality and cost. MEIL was selected over big companies like BHEL and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) because of its strong technical plan and competitive price.
