Hyderabad: Industry Minister D Sridhar Babu and Agriculture Minister T Nageshwara Rao expressed their disappointment with the poor urea production at Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL). This shortfall has led to a significant fertilizer shortage during the current farming season in the state.
A high-level review meeting took place on Saturday at the Secretariat. It included senior officials from RFCL, the Agriculture department, and the Industries department.
During the meeting, the Ministers explored why RFCL’s production frequently stopped. They highlighted that the plant operated only 40 days out of 145 this season. They questioned RFCL CEO Alok Singhal on why no permanent solutions were in place to prevent these ongoing issues.
The Ministers emphasized that the state sees RFCL as a key partner in Telangana’s development, not just a business. They reviewed plans for quickly restarting production and provided additional instructions.
They stressed that Telangana should receive special consideration compared to other states. Until Ramagundam’s production resumes, they urged National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), RFCL’s parent company, to supply at least one rake of urea daily from its other plants to Telangana.
The Ministers promised that if RFCL encounters any obstacles, the state government would address these with the central government for a solution.
They assured farmers that there would be no urea shortage in the state and warned them not to be swayed by opposition claims.
The Ministers committed to taking all necessary steps to protect farmers’ interests.
