Hyderabad: Tensions are rising within the Telangana Mahila Congress as several women leaders have openly demanded the removal of State Mahila Congress President M Sunitha Rao. The demand follows her recent protest against top party leaders, including Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and PCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud.
On Tuesday, members of the Goshamahal division Mahila Congress, along with several activists, staged a protest calling for Sunitha Rao’s dismissal. They gathered outside the party office, shouting slogans like “Remove Sunitha Rao, Save Goshamahal Congress.” These women leaders have also written to the Congress high command, urging immediate disciplinary action against her.
The letter accuses Sunitha Rao of making disrespectful comments about the Chief Minister and the PCC chief. The women leaders claim that although she was given an important role and the party’s MLA ticket for Goshamahal in the recent Assembly elections, she failed to engage with local party workers or the community.
According to them, Sunitha Rao didn’t organize any outreach programs or help address public issues in her constituency. They allege she avoided grassroots-level work and now criticizes party leadership while staying inactive. Some even accused her of a secret alliance with the BRS, hinting at political betrayal.
Adding to the controversy, they pointed to her recent TV comments where she challenged the leadership, saying, “I will protest at Gandhi Bhavan — do what you can if you have the courage.”
These developments come shortly after Sunitha Rao staged a sit-in protest at the chambers of PCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud in Gandhi Bhavan. During that demonstration, she claimed that senior women leaders were being ignored in party committees, sparking further unrest.
Now, with growing pressure from within the party and mounting allegations, Sunitha Rao’s position in the Telangana Congress appears increasingly unstable. The party leadership has yet to respond officially to the demands for her removal.
