The Hyderabad Traffic Police is working with other agencies to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety during the Ganesh Festival 2025.
D Joel Davis, the Hyderabad Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, announced during a Friday meeting that extensive plans are in place. The main immersion procession starts at Balapur and heads to Hussain Sagar Lake, covering a 19 km route. More than one million devotees are expected to join.
To facilitate idol immersions, GHMC has fixed potholes, cleared debris, trimmed trees, and set up lighting, drinking water, and portable toilets. They have also installed watchtowers, CCTV cameras, and public address systems. RTC is adjusting bus routes and signals. Special measures are in place for the Khairtabad Ganesh immersion, with about 80 traffic officers managing the 2.5 km path from Khairtabad to Hussain Sagar. A total of 3,183 personnel, including Traffic Police and additional forces, are working in two shifts. Forty high-rise cameras at key points provide real-time monitoring.
Traffic is diverted at various junctions such as Keshavagiri, Charminar, and Liberty. Travelers are advised to use the PVNR Expressway or Outer Ring Road to reach the airport. Google Maps will offer live updates. Special parking areas are available at NTR Stadium and other sites.
After idols are immersed, empty trucks will be rerouted, and heavy commercial vehicles are banned from the city. RTC city buses face restrictions, and checks for drunk driving will apply to procession drivers. Riot control units are posted at Tank Bund and other sensitive spots. Devotees should avoid conducting pooja at crane locations to prevent delays.
