Hyderabad: BJP leader and Member of Parliament R. Krishnaiah accused the ruling Congress of ignoring the needs of the Backwards Classes (BC). He said the government failed to honor promises made in the Kamareddy BC Declaration.
On Friday, Krishnaiah spoke to the media, criticizing Congress for not implementing the promised 42% BC reservation. He argued that the party wrongly blamed the central government and the BJP for this failure. According to him, under Constitutional Amendments 73 and 74, Clause 243D(6), state governments can decide on local body reservations. Thus, the Congress-led government can take immediate action.
Krishnaiah accused Congress of falsely claiming that the BJP blocked the reservation bill, even though the BJP supports it. He noted that no Government Order has been issued, despite Assembly approval. He believes reservations should focus on caste professions, not religion, arguing that including Muslims undermines BC representation.
He mentioned past issues, such as the 4% central BC reservation being diverted to Muslims by the UPA government, and criticized religious-based quotas. He cited Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s views on reservations addressing caste discrimination specifically.
Krishnaiah praised the Modi government for conducting a national caste census, giving constitutional status to the National BC Commission, and launching initiatives like the PM Vishwakarma Yojana for caste professions. He also criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for questioning the Prime Minister’s identity concerning BC interests.
He urged all BC leaders and groups to join a Mahadharna at Indira Park on August 2, demanding the implementation of the Kamareddy Declaration and exposing what he claims are Congress’s double standards.
Krishnaiah concluded by stating that the Congress government lacks sincerity and transparency, asserting that only the BJP is truly committed to empowering the Backwards Classes.
