Authorities in Cyberabad have initiated a comprehensive action plan to address severe traffic congestion in the Madhapur and HITEC City areas, two of Telangana’s busiest commercial zones. A joint inspection was conducted by Cyberabad Municipal Commissioner Smt. G. Srijana, HMWS&SB MD Ashok Reddy, Traffic Police officials, and representatives from various line departments to assess ongoing road widening works along the critical Lemon Tree-Trident-Shilparamam stretch.
The inspection focused on reviewing the progress of infrastructure development and the systematic shifting of utilities to facilitate smoother traffic flow. The corridor serves over 1.3 lakh commuters daily, making it one of the most congested stretches in the city. The heavy vehicular load has prompted authorities to fast-track development works with coordinated efforts from multiple government departments.
A total of five departments are working in tandem to expedite the project. These include the Municipal Administration, Water Board, Traffic Police, Irrigation Department, Electricity Department, and TGIIC (Telangana Government Industrial Infrastructure Corporation). The multi-departmental approach aims to ensure that all utility shifting and road expansion activities proceed without delays or coordination gaps.
As part of the infrastructure upgrade, a 1000 mm diameter sewer pipeline is nearing completion in the area. This critical installation is designed to prevent sewage overflow into Lake Park, a problem that has plagued the locality during monsoon seasons. The pipeline work is expected to significantly improve sanitation and prevent environmental degradation in the surrounding residential and commercial zones.
Parallel to the traffic decongestion efforts, authorities have intensified measures to protect Durgam Cheruvu, a major water body in the vicinity. The lake has been facing pollution threats due to untreated sewage discharge. To address this, sewage is being diverted to dedicated 5 MLD and 7 MLD Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), ensuring that wastewater is treated before any discharge.
Flood drain works are also underway to manage stormwater runoff and prevent flooding during heavy rains. In a significant environmental mandate, authorities have made 100% reuse of treated water compulsory in the Raheja Mindspace zone, one of the largest commercial complexes in the area. This measure is aimed at conserving freshwater resources while ensuring sustainable water management practices in the rapidly developing corridor.
The coordinated efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to urban infrastructure challenges in one of Hyderabad’s most economically significant zones. With multiple departments working simultaneously on road widening, utility shifting, sewage management, and environmental protection, the authorities aim to deliver lasting solutions to both traffic congestion and ecological concerns in the Madhapur-HITEC City region.
