Hyderabad: Many families living along the banks of the Musi River are facing the loss of their homes. For decades, these residents have built their lives in this area, but now their houses are set to be demolished. The state government has promised 2BHK housing for those affected, but many families are still worried about their future and how they will survive. While some have already moved into nearby government housing, others are hesitant because they fear losing their income.
One family, who bought their home 20 years ago, is heartbroken by the news that their house will be demolished. Tahera Bibi, from Chaderghat, shared her distress. Her husband had a heart attack when they learned about the demolition while they were in Odisha. He is now receiving treatment in Bhubaneswar, and Tahera had to urgently return to Hyderabad by taking out a loan.
“This house has been a lifeline for us, especially after my husband’s first heart attack,” she said. “Now, we’re on the brink of losing everything, and in our condition, how can we manage living in a place with stairs?”
Some homeowners have already accepted the government’s offer of 2BHK housing. However, many tenants are still worried. Mustari Begum, a tenant who has lived in the area for over ten years, fears the impact on her family. “Rent in other places is much higher than what we pay here, and my children’s education will be affected if we move.”
The threat of demolition is causing great anxiety for many residents. Recently, over a hundred people gathered at a local school in Musa Nagar to discuss their concerns. They are unsure if the government will provide enough housing, especially for larger families.
One long-time resident, Zaibunnisa, who is in her 50s, expressed her determination to fight for her home. “I was born here, and now I have grandchildren. Where will my family go? I fought against similar threats years ago, and I will fight again.”
