Hyderabad: Union Minister JP Nadda is worried about the sharp rise in urea use in Telangana. After Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy asked for more urea supplies, the union minister urged the promotion of organic farming to control chemical fertilizer use.
Following a meeting between the CM and the Union Minister in New Delhi, Nadda sent a message to the state regarding urea supply. He noted a 21% increase in urea sales during the 2024-25 Rabi season compared to 2023-24, which is concerning given environmental issues. He mentioned the ‘Pranam scheme’, which offers incentives to states to reduce chemical fertilizers and boost organic farming.
A state team, led by the Chief Minister, met with Nadda in Delhi on Tuesday. They discussed the urea shortage and requested continuous supply for the Kharif season in July and August. Nadda quickly responded by promising full support to meet farmers’ fertilizer needs and directed his ministry to ensure enough urea for Telangana.
The union minister also asked state officials to distribute urea fairly across districts, avoiding diversion for non-agricultural purposes.
