Narayana Schools across India celebrated the harvest festival of Sankranti and Pongal with vibrant cultural programmes and student participation. The celebrations took place at over 550 campuses nationwide, showcasing the institution’s commitment to preserving Indian traditions alongside academic excellence.

The festivities began with traditional Pooja ceremonies, followed by cultural performances featuring Sankranti-themed dances and songs. Students actively participated in various activities including Ramp Walks, Pongal preparation competitions, Rangoli making, Pot Breaking, Balloon Bursting, and kite flying. The events combined traditional customs with contemporary elements through energetic DJ sessions that maintained a lively atmosphere throughout the celebrations.

A significant highlight of the celebrations was the preparation and sharing of the traditional Pongal dish, which reinforced the spirit of togetherness and gratitude among students and educators. The festival, observed annually on 14 January and occasionally on 15 January during leap years, is based on the solar calendar and marks a seasonal shift caused by Earth’s axial tilt.

The educational institution integrated scientific learning into the celebrations, explaining how activities like kite flying introduce students to physics concepts including air pressure, lift, wind direction, and balance. The outdoor celebrations also promoted physical activity, vitamin D absorption, and emotional well-being. From an agricultural science perspective, students learned about crop maturity cycles influenced by seasonal sunlight and soil patterns.

Dr. Narayana further explained that the solar-based festival offers meaningful opportunities to introduce students to seasonal change, agriculture, and the importance of sunlight in human well-being. “Through activities such as traditional cooking, outdoor celebrations, and kite flying, students experience hands-on learning that builds physical health, emotional balance, and curiosity about scientific principles,” she added.
