Nirmal, Telangana – Concerned about rising accidents caused by underage drivers, Superintendent of Police (SP) G Janaki Sharmila issued a clear warning: parents who let their children drive will face legal consequences.
Over the weekend, police carried out a special operation targeting minors driving vehicles. During this crackdown, they registered nearly 100 cases on Sunday alone.
On Tuesday, at the district police headquarters, SP Sharmila and Additional SP Upender Reddy held a counseling session. They met with 91 minors and 107 parents, aiming to educate them about the risks and responsibilities of road safety.
SP Sharmila pointed out a major concern—drunk driving at night, especially after minors drink at local hotels and roadside dhabas. She stressed that this behavior often leads to serious or even deadly accidents.
She firmly stated that if minors continue to drive after these warnings, law enforcement will take strict action against their parents and the owners of the vehicles.
During the session, Additional SP Upender Reddy used a PowerPoint presentation to explain why underage driving is dangerous. He said minors often lack the quick reflexes and decision-making skills needed to react to unexpected situations on the road. This delay in judgment can result in tragic crashes.
To drive the point home, he showed videos of real-life accidents involving minors and shared emotional stories of families affected by such incidents. He also screened short films based on true cases, highlighting the legal and emotional consequences of allowing children to drive.
The event saw participation from several RI officers and police personnel, all working together to spread awareness and prevent future tragedies.
The police urge parents to act responsibly and stop their children from driving before they are legally eligible.
