Opposition and Ruling Party Clash Over Food Poisoning in Gurukulas

In Hyderabad, a heated debate broke out in the Assembly between the ruling party and the opposition over food poisoning cases in Gurukula schools. The opposition demanded details on the measures taken by the government to address the issue. In response, the ruling party defended its actions and pointed out similar problems during the previous regime under the BRS.

The discussion became intense when the opposition brought up the tragic death of a tribal student, Shailaja, in November. Opposition leaders criticized the government and urged for compensation for Shailaja’s family. Former ministers T Harish Rao and Gangula Kamalakar highlighted that there were 54 deaths, including food poisoning cases, during the Congress rule.

Countering these claims, Minister Seethakka argued that the government identified fewer cases—around 25 to 26. However, she alleged that during the BRS regime, 62 students had died from various causes, including food poisoning.

Seethakka further explained that the government made significant efforts to save Shailaja, spending nearly Rs 12 lakh on her treatment. She added that both Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy closely monitored her condition and provided the best care possible.
