The Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Hyderabad is set to get a state-of-the-art Multi-Violation Detection Camera (MVDC) system to enhance traffic management and road safety. The project, estimated at ₹8.34 crore, will initially cover 14 locations across a 90-kilometre stretch of the expressway. These advanced cameras are designed to automatically detect and penalize multiple traffic violations simultaneously, marking a significant upgrade in the city’s traffic enforcement infrastructure.

The MVDC system is programmed to identify and generate e-challans for a wide range of traffic violations including over speeding, lane discipline breaches, wrong-way driving, and other traffic rule violations. Unlike traditional speed cameras that monitor only one type of offense, these multi-functional cameras can capture several violations in real-time. The automated system will eliminate the need for manual intervention and ensure immediate action against violators, thereby improving compliance with traffic regulations on one of Hyderabad’s busiest roads.

The Outer Ring Road, which connects various parts of Hyderabad and surrounding areas, has witnessed a significant increase in traffic volume over recent years. The installation of these cameras is expected to address growing concerns about road safety and traffic discipline on this crucial arterial road. The system will operate round the clock, monitoring vehicle movements and ensuring that motorists adhere to speed limits and lane discipline. The technology is capable of capturing high-resolution images and videos even in low-light conditions, ensuring effective enforcement at all times.

Officials from the traffic department have indicated that the MVDC system represents a major step forward in leveraging technology for traffic management. The cameras will be strategically positioned at accident-prone zones and high-traffic areas along the ORR. Once operational, the system is expected to significantly reduce traffic violations and improve overall road safety. The project is part of broader efforts to modernize traffic enforcement infrastructure across Telangana, with similar systems potentially being deployed on other major roads based on the success of this initiative.
