Hyderabad: Osmania University’s Department of Commerce and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) recently organized a conference to celebrate Commerce Day. This event gathered over 70 principals from colleges affiliated with Osmania University, as well as key figures from industry and academia, to discuss the transformative role of AI and technology in commerce education and the importance of strengthening ties between the academic world and industry.
Md. Sajid Khan, Director of ACCA, kicked off the event with a keynote speech. He discussed the evolving expectations on finance professionals and highlighted the value of ACCA’s globally recognized qualifications in preparing future-ready talent. He also stressed the importance of integrating sustainability into commerce education.
Prof. Kumar Molugaram, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University, was the Chief Guest. He emphasized the necessity for educational institutions to equip students with both ethical values and technological skills. He noted that understanding digital trends in global markets is crucial for the future of commerce. He praised the university’s long-standing legacy and its Commerce Department’s history of innovation as a solid foundation for embracing change.
Professors M. Gangadhar, K. Krishna Chaitanya, and A. Patrick from the university’s Commerce Department supported the collaboration with ACCA. They viewed it as a strategic step to align Indian commerce education with global trends and digital advancements.
A highlight of the conference was a panel discussion led by Prabhanshu Mittal, Head of Education Partners Relationships at ACCA India. The panel included voices like Professor Sanjay Kallapur from ISB, Sivaramu of Tech Mahindra, and Sai Prashant from Oasis Accountants. They discussed the integration of AI in education, personalized learning, and the use of simulation-based teaching to connect theory with practice. The event ended with remarks from Prof. Patrick, emphasizing the university’s dedication to ongoing learning and collaboration across sectors. ACCA’s education leaders, Althea Lee and Royston Ebenezer, also contributed to the program.
