Hyderabad: The State Congress in Telangana, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, plans to advocate for 42% reservations for Backward Classes. From August 5 to 7, they will be in Delhi to push their agenda. On these dates, they aim to apply pressure both inside and outside Parliament through various actions.
A key part of their strategy involves meeting with President Droupadi Murmu. They will request her approval of two Bills that propose 42% reservations for Backward Classes in education, jobs, and local governance.
AICC State in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and PCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud recently discussed the plan with CM Reddy. Their meeting, held at Reddy’s home in Jubilee Hills, focused on building party strength for upcoming local elections and pressing for BC reservations.
Originally, a padayatra was set to run until August 6. However, it will pause on August 4 to accommodate the Delhi trip and resume afterward. The group also discussed how to bolster their campaign for BC reservations in Delhi.
On August 5, Congress MPs will call for a debate on BC reservations in Parliament. The following day, a protest is planned at Jantar Mantar. This protest will involve Chief Ministers, ministers, MLAs, MLCs, party members, and BC organization leaders.
The leaders will meet President Murmu on August 7 to present their case. Fifty participants from each constituency will travel to Delhi by special train. After August 7, the padayatra will continue. It starts on July 31 in Pargi, Vikarabad district.
The padayatra focuses on grassroots engagement and election strategies. Each day will include a 10-km walk starting at 5 pm, with leaders staying overnight in villages. The next morning, they will engage in community service, called Shramadanam, until 11 am, followed by meetings with local Congress figures. Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and district leaders will join these efforts.
