Hyderabad: Heavy rain and strong winds in Telangana have caused significant damage to the state’s electrical infrastructure. According to officials, a total of 2,417 electricity poles, 21 dynamic thermal rating (DTR) structures, and 18 sub-stations have been damaged.
Suryapet district was particularly hard-hit over the past three days, with more than 1,200 poles and four sub-stations damaged. In the Greater Hyderabad area, 412 poles and 13 DTR structures sustained damage. Musharraf Faruqui, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd., warned that further damage could occur.
Faruqui assessed the situation during a teleconference with Chief Engineers (CEs) and Superintending Engineers (SEs) to discuss the power supply issues caused by the adverse weather. He explained that strong winds had caused large trees and other objects to fall onto power lines, leading to many poles collapsing. Crews are currently working to remove fallen tree branches and replace damaged poles and power lines.
The CMD emphasized that field staff and officers are working tirelessly to restore power, despite the ongoing rain and floods. He also issued a warning that strict action would be taken against any staff found to be negligent during this critical time. Faruqui added that officials have been instructed to conduct regular field visits to monitor the progress of the restoration efforts.
