Hyderabad: After facing repeated election losses, BRS leaders are now appealing to the public by highlighting the party’s strong connection to Telangana. They are saying that the party’s “DNA is Telangana” and that the pink flag represents the spirit of the state, especially as the party prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
Some senior leaders believe that dropping the word “Telangana” from the party’s original name, TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi), hurt its popularity. Since the name change, the party lost power and failed to win any seats in the Lok Sabha elections. Many second-level and grassroots leaders have also raised concerns during internal meetings, suggesting the party should go back to its original name, TRS.
The party officially changed its name from TRS to BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) in October 2022, and the Election Commission approved this in December. However, changing the name back is not simple, as it involves a lengthy EC process, including issuing notifications and inviting objections.
With the silver jubilee celebrations happening at the end of this month, party leaders are again emphasizing their Telangana roots. At a recent meeting, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said that even though the name changed, the party’s heart remains in Telangana. “When people see pink flags or scarves, they still think of our party,” he said.
He added that this shows how deeply the party is connected with the people of Telangana. Rama Rao is currently holding meetings across districts to prepare for the celebrations, which will take place on April 27. He urged party workers and supporters to participate, calling the 25-year milestone a proud achievement. “We are only the second party in the Telugu states to reach this mark,” he said during a meeting in Malkajgiri.
