Hyderabad experienced a surge in liquor sales during the Dasara festival. Many people chose to enjoy premium brands during the celebrations.
In just two days, September 30 and October 1, the State Excise and Prohibition Department recorded liquor sales worth Rs 419 crore. Officials anticipated further sales on October 3, following the main festival day.
On September 30, liquor worth Rs 330 crore was sold, and Rs 86 crore on October 1. The increase in sales was partly due to the ‘dry day’ on October 2, which marks Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, when liquor sales are prohibited. This year, Dasara coincided with this date.
Sales spiked particularly in the regions of Nalgonda, Khammam, and Mahabubnagar. Many residents of Hyderabad traveled to these areas to celebrate with family. The demand for premium liquor brands was notably high, indicating a shift in consumer preferences even in rural parts. Previously, cheaper brands were more popular, but this time, premium options were favored.
