Hyderabad: Police in Rachakonda discovered a drug smuggling ring on the Hyderabad-Nagpur highway. Officers from Abdullapurmet station arrested a driver transporting 16.460 kg of ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra. At approximately 9:22 PM on Friday, a call alerted the police about a car crash near the Nirmala Service Station on NH-65 towards Hyderabad.
Upon arrival, police found Bhukya Madhu, a 33-year-old driver. He claimed he was traveling from Khammam to Nagpur. Suspicious of his behavior, officers searched his car and discovered two plastic bags filled with brown packets between the seats. They seized 16.460 kg of ganja.
During questioning, Madhu confessed that his friend Sadib from Khammam had proposed the job. Sadib suggested transporting ganja from Odisha to Nagpur for profit. Madhu agreed and met Sadib in Khanapuram, Khammam, on August 13. He received Rs 50,000 with instructions to go to Gokavaram, Rajahmundry. There, he was to collect ganja packets, pay Rs 45,000 to the supplier, and keep Rs 5,000 for expenses.
Following these instructions, Madhu collected two bags of ganja on August 14 in Rajahmundry. He then set off from Khanapuram to Nagpur via Hyderabad. However, on August 15, he crashed into a road divider at Batasingaram due to speeding.
The Abdullapurmet police have registered a case and are investigating further. Madhu was arrested and presented in court.
