Hyderabad: The Telangana Police Department has partnered with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University in Hyderabad to help police officers without degrees earn their graduation. Director General of Police, Dr. Jitender, announced that over 30,000 officers currently lack a degree, but can now graduate in five to six years through this program.
Previously, police recruitment required only a 10th Class education, but now an Intermediate level is needed. This program allows those who joined with the earlier qualifications to complete their degrees.
Dr. Jitender believes that further education will improve officers’ self-esteem and confidence. He proudly stated that Telangana Police is the first in India to launch such an initiative.
University Vice-Chancellor Chakrapani praised Dr. Jitender for his swift action in finalizing the partnership. The university has already started courses for army families and now plans to offer similar opportunities to police families.
Chakrapani reaffirmed the university’s commitment to “Education at your doorstep,” promising continued dedication to this mission.
Additional DGP (Training) V.V. Srinivas Rao shared that various courses have been outlined for police personnel, expressing gratitude to the university for its collaboration.
In his vote of thanks, Additional DGP (Law and Order) Mahesh M. Bhagwat credited the MoU idea to Dr. Jitender and commended his vision for improving the police force’s welfare.
