Adilabad District: Police discovered a large illegal cannabis crop growing in a farmland at Salyada village, located in Echoda mandal.
On Monday evening, officers raided the field after receiving a reliable tip. They found and seized about 180 fully-grown ganja plants, ready for harvesting. The estimated value of the seized plants is around ₹18 lakh, according to Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan.
Police arrested four suspects from the same village. The accused are Chakati Sonerao, Durva Lavakush, Arka Janjubapu, and Durva Arun. Each cannabis plant is believed to be worth nearly ₹10,000 in the market.
SP Akhil Mahajan briefed the media at Echoda Police Station on Tuesday. He said strict action will continue against illegal cannabis cultivation and trade in the district. He also mentioned that four criminal cases have already been filed against the arrested individuals.
To combat the drug problem, the police have formed special teams to track down not only the growers but also the suppliers, sellers, and users of cannabis in the region.
SP Mahajan urged the public to share any information about illegal drug activities. People can send tips via SMS to 8712659973. The identity of informants will remain confidential.
He also praised the efforts of the police team involved in the operation. Officers including Utnoor ASP Kajal Singh, Inspector E. Bheemesh, and Sub-Inspector Tirupathi were part of the successful raid.
