Hyderabad: Telangana’s Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has urged TGSRTC employees not to go on strike, saying it would trouble the public and harm the progress made by the Road Transport Corporation.
The Joint Action Committee representing the employees had earlier announced a strike starting at midnight on May 6.
On Monday, union representatives met with the minister to discuss their concerns. Prabhakar assured them that the government is open to resolving their problems. He requested the employees to reconsider their decision to strike.
He emphasized that both he and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy were committed to listening to workers’ issues. The minister said the current government is focused on protecting the RTC, improving employee welfare, and ensuring better facilities for passengers.
Prabhakar criticized the previous BRS government, led by KCR, for ignoring the RTC for an entire decade. He said it failed to buy even one new bus or provide employment opportunities. He also accused the former administration of misusing workers’ Cooperative Credit Society (CCS) and Provident Fund (PF) money.
According to the minister, after the Congress government took charge, it cleared several financial dues. It paid ₹400 crore for employee bonds, ₹1,039 crore for pending PF payments, and ₹345 crore for CCS arrears.
He also announced that 1,500 jobs were given on compassionate grounds, and 3,038 new positions were approved to boost employment in the sector.
