Hyderabad saw a special event aimed at stopping substance abuse, hosted by the Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (AIMSR) during the Inter Medical College Fest, Anastomoz – 2025. The event took place at KBR Park, Banjara Hills, with Ponnam Prabhakar, the Minister for Transport & BC Welfare, starting the awareness run. Over 400 medical students joined to promote the prevention of drug abuse, especially among young people.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the harmful effects of drugs. He praised the efforts of AIMSR for organizing the run and mentioned how the government, since its early days, prioritized creating laws against drug abuse. The Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to making Telangana drug-free, inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision of a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’. However, he stressed that success requires society’s active involvement.
The Minister encouraged young people to reject drugs and help others do the same. He acknowledged Apollo Hospitals for addressing crucial social issues and urged students to spread the anti-drug message further. He also mentioned the Transport Department’s strict measures against drunk driving, including lifetime license cancellation for repeat offenders.
Dr. K. Manohar, Dean of AIMSR, spoke about the annual fest Anastomoz and its symbolic run, which represents unity and purpose. He praised the State Government’s actions against drugs, noting progress in making Telangana free from substance abuse. He highlighted the devastating impact of drugs on individuals and families, urging the community to join the fight against this issue.
Aparna Reddy, COO of AIMSR, congratulated students and faculty for their dedication to preventing drug abuse. She expressed gratitude to Minister Ponnam Prabhakar for his support in this mission.
The Anastomoz 2025 fest, running until October 11, 2025, is a major event for medical students across Telangana, featuring cultural, sports, and literary activities. This year’s theme, “Dive into the Mediverse of Madness,” invites students to participate in innovative and competitive events. The fest includes sports like cricket and football, cultural performances, literary contests, and academic challenges. Workshops and entertainment offer a memorable experience for all attendees.
