Mahabubnagar: The political scene in Kollapur mandal is changing rapidly. Due to a new reservation policy, fresh leaders are stepping up while many established local leaders are losing their influence. The upcoming local elections are creating a buzz, especially about who will become the next Kollapur Mandal Parishad President (MPP).
As the election dates are set, political activities in Nagarkurnool district’s villages are heating up. The increased reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) and women are allowing new candidates to emerge in villages previously dominated by seasoned leaders.
Experts say that about 60% of the villages saw unexpected reservation changes, surprising many hopefuls. Those who relied on connections with ministers, MLAs, and MPs now face an uncertain future.
In Kollapur, the stronghold of Excise and Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, the Congress Party is supporting new local leaders. Sources indicate that the party is finalizing candidates in several villages, moving away from its old leadership.
In Talla Narsingapur, Vanga Rajasekhar Goud is the leading candidate for the MPTC seat. Known for his close ties with Jupally and active community involvement over the last six years, he is seen as a loyal Congress figure. Party insiders expect his candidacy announcement soon.
Meanwhile, in Yanman Betla, Congress plans to nominate Gundrati Shekhar Goud, another Jupally ally. He has strong community ties and good relationships with both ruling and opposition parties, reflecting Congress’s focus on energetic grassroots leadership.
After the MPTC elections, attention will turn to the important MPP role, crucial in local governance.
Insiders suggest the race for the Kollapur MPP chair will likely be between Vanga Rajasekhar Goud and Gundrati Shekhar Goud, both seen as strong candidates connected to the minister.
However, early talks within Congress and among villagers hint that Vanga Rajasekhar Goud currently has an edge due to his ongoing public engagement and rising popularity across several gram panchayats.
