New Delhi: Premier Energies, a clean energy company, has started a new 400 megawatt solar cell manufacturing plant in Telangana. This is part of their plan to invest Rs 11,000 crore for expansion.
Based in Hyderabad, Premier Energies plans to increase its annual production capacities. They aim for 10.6 gigawatts in solar cells and 11.1 gigawatts in solar modules to meet local demand.
Premier Energies is investing Rs 11,000 crore to achieve these goals by 2028. With the new facility, their solar cell production has grown from 3.2 gigawatts to 3.6 gigawatts, as stated by Vinay Rustagi, the Chief Business Officer. The 400 MW photovoltaic mono “PERC cell” facility began operation on January 22, 2026, at E City, Maheeshwaram.
Solar panels are built from modules containing cells, which are manufactured using ingots and wafers. The government encourages local solar cell manufacturing to reduce dependency on imports.
Currently, Premier Energies has a 5.1 gigawatt solar module production capacity in its Hyderabad facilities, situated about 50 kilometers from their solar cell plant.
The company supports its growth with Rs 1,300 crore from last year’s IPO and Rs 2,200 crore in debt from the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, plus internal funds.
Rustagi mentioned that Premier Energies plans to enter the ingot and wafer market, aiming to become a leading integrated renewable energy equipment manufacturer outside China. By producing ingots and wafers internally, the company hopes to enhance its supply chain and ensure consistent supply for its solar panels.
