Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is expected to announce significant benefits for farmers during a public meeting in Mahbubnagar on Saturday. This meeting marks the conclusion of a three-day farmers’ conference and is anticipated to draw over one lakh farmers from across the state.
One of the key announcements is likely to be the launch of the delayed Rythu Bharosa scheme. Under this program, farmers will receive Rs. 7,000 per acre as input costs. Other measures, such as the extension of the farm loan waiver scheme and guaranteed better prices for agricultural products, are also expected to be revealed.
The Agriculture Department has already submitted a detailed report on the financial requirements for these initiatives. The Chief Minister has approved the implementation of the schemes, aligning with the recommendations of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Rythu Bharosa. Official sources suggest the government plans to roll out the Rythu Bharosa scheme during the Sankranti festival in January.
Initially, the scheme provided benefits to all farmers, regardless of the size of their landholding. However, due to financial constraints, the Cabinet Sub-Committee has now recommended limiting the benefits to farmers who own less than 10 acres of land. Officials explained that this adjustment was necessary as the government recently spent Rs. 18,000 crore on the farm loan waiver scheme. Consequently, the Rythu Bharosa benefits for the current farming season were delayed, but the government intends to begin disbursing funds in the next agricultural season.
Additionally, the government is considering offering remunerative prices for selected crops, including horticultural produce. This move aligns with a promise made in the Congress election manifesto to ensure fair returns for farmers. A new scheme addressing this issue may also be introduced.
Another key issue under review is the provision of annual financial support for tenant farmers. Sources suggest the Chief Minister is likely to address this matter during the public meeting. To finalize these plans, the CM has been holding discussions with officials from the Agriculture Department to resolve pending concerns related to farmers’ welfare.
