Residents of Miyapur, Hafeezpet, and Chanda Nagar are worried about flooding during the monsoon season. The GHMC has not done anything to fix the problem caused by overflowing water bodies like Medikunta lake and Anumula Kunta. Even after residents asked for stormwater drains to be built, nothing has been done. They are thinking of tweeting KTR to bring attention to the issue.

The only thing that has been done is cleaning the lakes. Officials have not helped resolve the decades-old problem of flooding. During the 2020 flood, residential areas and basements were also flooded. People had to pump out the water themselves using buckets.

Officials claim that the problem is due to illegal constructions by realtors who built apartments without an outlet for water to exit. However, residents question why the civic body did not prevent illegal constructions from being built. They blame GHMC for failing to prevent debris from being thrown into Medikunta lake bed, which causes flooding in the lanes and houses.

The proposals for stormwater drains are still on paper, according to Vinay Vangala, a resident of Miyapur. Residents in Hafeezpet are also preparing for the monsoon season, as even a little rain last week caused waterlogging and overflowing in the lanes. Vinay believes that making Hyderabad a global city does not make sense unless infrastructure facilities are in place.
