Asifabad: District Collector Venkatesh Dhotre has urged rice millers in the district to meet their assigned targets without delay.
On Tuesday, he led a review meeting at the Collectorate, joined by Additional Collector (Revenue) M. David and Kagaznagar Sub-Collector Shraddha Shukla. The meeting included officials from the Civil Supplies Department, rice millers, and transport representatives.
The Collector emphasized the importance of teamwork between millers and government officials. He said the district expects to receive 56,588 metric tons of both fine and coarse rice this season. To handle this, he directed the setup of purchase centers under the relevant departments. These centers must ensure rice is bought from farmers according to government rules and standards.
He warned that strict action will be taken if millers fail to meet their targets. Non-compliance may lead to the seizure of rice mills.
To support farmers, the Collector asked officials to provide key facilities at the purchase centers. These include clean drinking water, shade, moisture dryers, and other basic needs to ensure smooth sales of their paddy.
He also instructed Revenue Mandal Officers and the Sub-Collector to regularly visit the centers. They should inspect conditions and offer guidance to staff and managers to improve operations.
There is no shortage of gunny bags required for paddy procurement, the Collector confirmed. He added that the Marketing Department is working to supply enough tarpaulins to protect the grain.
Currently, 46 vehicles are available for transporting paddy. The Collector highlighted the need for better coordination so millers can swiftly move the paddy to their mills and return the vehicles on time, avoiding past delays.
