Mahabubnagar: Farmers in Jogulamba Gadwal district could soon take to the streets if cotton seed prices drop even slightly, warned BRS Gadwal constituency in-charge Basu Hanumanthu Naidu. Speaking to the press on Monday, he demanded fixed prices for cotton seed packets — Rs 500 for GMS variety and Rs 600 for Convention variety.

Naidu accused seed companies and their organisers of confusing farmers with unclear pricing. He said this chaos hurts farmers just as the sowing season begins, making it harder for them to plan and invest.

“Farmers in Nadigadda grow large amounts of seed cotton,” Naidu stated. “While organisers make good money, they fail to give fair prices to the farmers. That’s pure exploitation.”

He urged seed companies to act responsibly and stop misleading practices that happen year after year. “It’s time to end this cycle of cheating. Farmers deserve honesty and fair returns for their hard work,” he said.

Naidu didn’t stop at cotton seed issues. He also called for urgent help for paddy farmers affected by recent unseasonal rains. Several IKP centers reported drenched paddy stocks, putting many farmers at risk of huge losses.

He asked the Congress-led government to act swiftly and protect farmers from further damage.

Local leaders and farmers such as Chakradhar Rao, Monesh, D. Shekhar Naidu, Venkatesh Naidu, Ganjipet Raju, and Kolai Bhaskar joined the press meet, showing strong support for Naidu’s demands.
