A road in Naveen Nagar, Banjara Hills sank when a private water tanker drove over a drain on Tuesday. This happened near Virinchi Hospital, alarming local residents. Heavy rains from the previous night had weakened the cement cover over the drain. When the heavy tanker drove over it, the cover couldn’t support the weight and collapsed, pulling the tanker into the drain. The tanker driver quickly left the scene after the incident.
The tanker, carrying 10,000 liters of water, was reportedly coming from Maheshwari Chambers. The road caved in around 11 am, causing major traffic disruptions. Local residents expressed anger, saying their complaints about the poor condition of roads and drainage in Banjara Hills have been ignored.
Traffic police and GHMC officials arrived to evaluate the damage and control the situation. GHMC officials mentioned that the drain couldn’t handle the tanker’s weight, leading to the road’s collapse. Initial investigations indicate that the drain line under the road may have weakened over time due to poor maintenance and heavy vehicle traffic, possibly causing the sudden sinkhole.
